Guilty Pleasures: Mio In the Land of Faraway Edition — 3 Comments

  1. This movie rules. I saw it a bunch as a kid, on a library VHS tape. I’ve watched it several more times with my kids, and they prefer it to the big 80s kid fantasy movies like The Neverending Story. It’s become one of their favorites. Of note: it’s based on a book by Astrid Lindgren, author of the Pippi Longstocking books. She wrote lots of books that were made into very popular kids aventure movies in Sweden, but I don’t know Swedish, and it’s hard to find any with english subtitles, but one, The Brothers Lionheart, was going to get an English remake a couple years ago by the director of Let the Right One In.

    • This one is a film from my childhood. I remember watching it religiously with a friend. My own children love it as well. Nothing, however, beat my (now) ex-husband squeaking, “WHAT?!” at the screen. Multiple times. And yes, Lindgren is cool. Thanks for all of the awesome info!
