Saturday Shorts: Bohemian Rhapsody
After some much-needed time away to move, I’m making my return with some dips into the kiddie pool. This week, I was sent this video to make me smile, and smile I did. I love Queen, as evidenced by my love of any film that can set a fight scene to “Don’t Stop Me Now” (hats off to Shaun of the Dead and Hardcore Henry). What better way to showcase that love? Making “Bohemian Rhapsody” into a dramatic crime short. In case if you haven’t seen it, someone went there.
Is the acting the strongest? Nope, but it doesn’t have to be because this one banks on the fact that we’re already smiling. We know and love the song going into this, we know how it’s going to end, and our ticket’s already been punched. It’s the familiarity of the plot, and the eager anticipation of the execution. It doesn’t hurt that our protagnoist looks a little bit like Freddie Mercury, who it seems we’ve all been missing lately. Plus, it’s fun. Let’s face it, the weeks are not getting any easier in terms of world news. It’s nice to have that escape into something slightly different that reminds us of an old, comfy blanket.
Happy Saturday.
