Saturday Shorts: 20 Seconds to Live: Climax
My friend Kieran Fisher is the bomb. He finds so many things that he sends over to me, effectively making him my cool friend that knows all of the good stuff. You know who he’s most like? Comeau in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Seriously, dude knows everyone and everything. Anywho, Kieran pointed me in the direction of a web series called 20 Seconds to Live, which is helmed by Ben Rock (Alien Raiders). I gave the series a chance, and …. Jesus, it’s funny. It’s so fucking funny. I had a really hard time deciding which one to profile this week. It was nearly “Astaroth,” which had me in hysterics. It was a tight race, but I’m going with “Climax.” You’ll see why in a minute. Literally, it will only take you about a minute. Pun intended.
Where do I start?
Okay, I can tell you right now that the struggle is real. A variation of this scenario has happened to just about every woman I know at least once (most likely more than once): about thirty seconds before you’re about to go off, he does, leaving you all wound up and frustrated. Given, no one I know has ever had someone literally die on them (or under them), but the look on our lead actress’s face says it all: “Shit, not again! I was *thisclose*!” We’ve all been there, and so we get it. In true comedic form, she goes for it and winds up completely blissed out by the time she makes the emergency phone call. You don’t care that she fucked a dead body. It’s funny. I giggled just typing that. I can now cross “necrophilia jokes” off of my list.
Now time for some kudos: our lead female was a little older, and our lead male was overweight. Memo to Ben Rock: HELLS YES! Bearing in mind my Cuban Fury rant earlier this week, we need to get more people on screen having sex that don’t fit the GQ model format. That means that our ladies are allowed to age past 25 and our men are allowed some extra weight (and vice versa, for that matter). They weren’t just having sex – they were having killer sex, which, if you get the chance, more power to you. Seriously, though, I liked that this was more inclusive. It made the experience far more universal, which made it even funnier when it went the direction it did.
I’m going to go ahead and recommend that you check out the rest of the series. It’s really funny, and they’re short enough for you to plow through pretty quickly. Click here to view other 20 Seconds to Live episodes. You won’t regret it.
Happy Saturday.
