Saturday Shorts: The Chickening
This one has made the rounds on the internet, but seeing as we’ve talked about both The Shining and my inappropriate sense of humor, well… this had to be done. It’s a moral imperative. My friend Chris sent this to me a while back, and when I need a good laugh, this is where I go. It cannot be helped. Without further adieu, I present The Chickening

It’s a parody trailer, not a short film, but it still makes the cut due to its judicious use of editing. Really, there’s some skill there, despite that some of the edits are obvious and not as clean as they could be. There are some details that you don’t catch the first time around that are pretty thoughtful, so repeat viewing is encouraged after the first round, which consists mainly of you staring at the screen slack-jawed. For every bad edit, there’s at least three really good ones. This quality manages to make it even funnier, which is tough to do because it’s already so random and off-the-wall. Boy is it random: between the weird plot about running a fast food place and the alien version of Dick Hallorran (not to mention his exquisitely painted toenails), it made some pretty wild jumps.
The best part for me, though, is the Grady Girls. The Grady Girls jumping in the hallway with the stereos hits such a spot for me. I have to pause it every time to collect myself (and I find myself humming, “Come play with us, Danny” for a good two hours after).
So sit back, relax, and come play with us on a Saturday.
