Saturday Shorts: One-Minute Time Machine
The first edition of the Sploid Short Film Festival is upon us, which means that there will be some interesting little nuggets of gold available to us in the name of friendly competition. I found this one and immediately thought, “Huh, it’s like Groundhog Day” based upon reading the premise. However, this one had something extra to it. So much that I liked it enough to feature it. Hell, I’d even call this one charming. I present One-Minute Time Machine.
Okay, who hasn’t wanted one of these while trying to pick someone up? As someone who is terribly awkward in general, I can totally appreciate the way that James (Brian Dietzen) takes multiple tries to get it right with Regina (Erinn Hayes). Best chuckle goes to, “95 pages? Fuck that!” That the tables then turn and Regina is forced to start the process to keep James from freaking out over the alternate-reality deaths… yeah, that was a nice twist. Wasn’t expecting that, yet the progression was smooth.
All in all, the plot, dialogue and multiple use of the same settings worked very well. I enjoyed it. Best of luck to it and director Devon Avery in the festival.
