Friday the 13th Shorts: The Stay
Going a day early this week, but it’s totally worth it. So, Frazer Lee is running a showing of his new film, The Stay, over at his Facebook page. If you like horror that’s more atmosphere than gore, give it a try. The link is good for 24 hours, or 8 AM EDT tomorrow (so, technically, it could be a Saturday Short, so there).

This is a really quick, first-view take of this, as I want to get this out so that others can see it too.
Seriously, atmosphere over gore is an art that more people need to pick up. Don’t get me wrong, I love gore; the more over-the-top, the better. However, I’m finding that it’s getting to be a bid to out-shock one another lately, and often, the plot and characterization is not there to help support it. I don’t want to get grossed out for an hour and a half with a thin veil of plot; I want to be scared. I want to be left to wonder, “What if…?” This one made me wonder what was lurking around the bend. Time loops are always fun for me, as they make you go back and piece together the ingredients of the film. I also dig the fear of that which can be painfully ordinary. Little things like objects disappearing when you look away or odd noises; things which are easy enough to explain away, but disconcerting enough to leave you mildly uncomfortable.
And with that, have a happy Friday the 13th, babies.
