Trailer Tuesdays: Black Panther
Yes, it’s another superhero movie. Oh, but kids, this one is a good one. We’re not talking some Jeremy Renner movie. This is Marvel’s latest offering: Black Panther. Check it out.
Have you seen who’s in this cast? Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’O, Chadwick Boseman, and Sterling K. Brown. There’s also Forest Whitaker, Florence Kasumba, and Danai Gurira. This is an incredible pool of talent, and they’re making a movie that, judging from the trailer, centers on a proud group of people defending their cherished home from greedy vultures. We need this movie right now. We needed this movie ten years ago, we needed it yesterday, and we need it tomorrow. Little kids need to look up at the screen and see a legit superhero – and Black Panther was the first comic hero that actually had super powers and happened to be black, way back in the 1960s – that looks like them. I know how much it means to my daughters to see a heroine onscreen; I can only imagine that same feeling of pride seeing someone that looks like your dad or your uncle making things right for others. Seeing someone who looks like you. Being a hero isn’t just for white people anymore, and that’s fantastic. Little kids need that. Hell, adults need that. It’s a beautiful thing when you’re represented, and it’s about fucking time.
While we’re on this subject, take a moment and give some praise to black cosplayers. They are truly some of the best and most imaginative out there.
