Trailer Tuesdays: The King of the MonsterVerse
Talicia here, having Erin post for me. I have to begin this post with an explanation for last week’s unexcused absence. It’s part of my penance anyway… after Erin had me walk barefoot across a floor full of Legos and light a candle at the altar of RuPaul. But the truth is, I’m still scrambling to get my taxes done and suffered a massive brain fart and forgot. Anyway …
Right now, the buzz is all about Logan, which I covered here in an earlier post, but I’m more excited about the next King Kong movie due out later this week. This iteration of the great ape has him significantly scaled up, no doubt in anticipation of a showdown with Godzilla per the MonsterVerse franchise. Therefore, the timeline for the franchise positions King Kong’s story before the 2014 Godzilla film, but not significantly before. Instead of the 1930s, Kong: Skull Island is set in the Vietnam-era 1970s complete with helicopters and Apocalypse Now references. Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Goodman are teaming up to locate the remote tropical island that’s home to gargantuan wonders of nature that are posed to eat our bite-sized heroes in their quest to track the Simian Wonder himself. The reveal of King Kong is impressive and the CGI appears to seamlessly blend Kong into the real world of our main characters. The trailer also sports a pretty neat soundtrack.
Kong: Skull Island is set to open this Thursday.
