Saturday Shorts: Elevator Romance
Relationships are a funny thing. Some days, two people you normally would not put together wind up in something that is equally head-scratching. It’s enough to make you wonder how they got there in the first place. What kind of recipe would give you that couple? You know which one I’m talking about: the one that really kind of hates each other, yet these two cannot seem to keep their hands off of each other. Dave Gaw takes a crack at it with his short film Elevator Romance. Check it out.

The single angle is genius, as is the black and white. We watch the initial shock of being stuck in close quarters, then the boredom, then the passion, then the resentment. By the time the elevator door opens, it feels like we’ve watched a relationship that would take most people at least two (if not three) years to cycle through unfold within the span of what is most likely a few hours. Corey Krueger and Jamie Criss play this so well. Points to Trip Gould for the editing. It was fun, playful and a great what if answer to the question of, “How in the hell did these two end up together?”
And with that, happy Saturday.
